Despite the fact that Big Time Gaming could be considered one of the smaller companies when compared with other big names, it has certainly carved out quite the niche for itself. One of the reasons that it has managed to do this is with the creation of its Megaways™ function for online slot games. And this has become a favourite of many online developers to incorporate into their slot releases, thanks to possessing a licence from the BTG brand to enable them to do so.
So, how did this company get its start? Where is it based? And when did the all-important Megaways™ become a part of the brand? Let’s take a closer look Big Time Gaming and everything that it has crafted in its years of operation.

The BTG brand hasn’t been around for a huge number of years, although it will soon be celebrating 10 years as a software developer. Getting its start in 2011, the brand bases itself out of Australia, but it caters nicely to the European market with the games and technology that it has brought to the fore in more recent years.
The CEO of the company is Nik Robinson, who has been actively participating in the gaming industry since 1996. He founded New Tech Media, which was later sold on to News Corp and merged with Orbis to become OpenBet, which is still running today. Robinson is joined by CTO Huw McIntosh, who has worked in the industry for more than 18 years, and Creative Director Ian Schmidt who joined BTG after a stint with Rock Star Games.
It didn’t take long for the BTG company to make its mark on the industry, signing into a distribution deal with Quickfire in 2012 before partnering up with CORE Gaming the following year, which develops HTML5 and tablet games. This allowed BTG’s games to be accessible for mobile gamers, and since that time, the company has united with various other developers, including Playtech, Leander and the Nyx Interactive Group.
Perhaps the biggest creation that BTG is known for is its Megaways™ function, which is found in a variety of online slots today. The first game to be released by the company that featured this Megaways™ engine was Dragon Born, which came about in 2016. Then followed Bonanza Megaways™, which became a big hit for the brand, and since that time, the company has gone on to release a small selection of games every year with the Megaways™ function built into them.
So, what is Megaways? Well, when a slot game has this included in it, it provides it with the chance of having huge numbers of ways to win. So, while a standard slot may have 25 paylines or 50 paylines, for example, a BTG Megaways™ game can have up to 117,649 ways for you to win. Some titles even go beyond this number of ways, and this all comes about because each reel in a Megaways™ slot can have up to 7 symbols showing on it per spin.
Furthermore, it’s not uncommon to find Big Time Gaming releases that have expanding reels in place, which allows the ways to win to increase as you continue playing. If you were to look at the selection of games coming from Big Time Gaming, you’ll see that the vast majority of them come with Megaways™ involved in their setup, while others incorporate Megaquads™ or Megaclusters™.
BTG is responsible for the release of a number of highly popular Megaways™ slot games. Of course, the aforementioned Bonanza Megaways™ is one such title, and this one remains a popular option for many gamers today, too.
Another one that stands out is the Queen of Riches Megaways™ game, which allows you to experience an Egyptian theme and surrounds Cleopatra. The game also comes with an RTP rate of 96.9% and a maximum win of 120,000 coins. Keep in mind that it’s also a high volatility slot release, which is common for Megaways™ releases in general.
We also recommend checking the Extra Chilli Megaways™ slot release out, too. You’ll be taken to the food market for this one, where various differently coloured chillies inhabit the reels. You can win up to 20,000x your bet from spinning the game’s reels, while a free spins round with an unlimited win multiplier is also active within.
And one final game recommendations from the BTG brand is the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Megaways™ release. Basing itself on the television quiz show of the same name, this one brings all of the highlights from it to life in game form, with Ask the Audience, 50:50 and Phone a Friend functions all coming into play at one time or another. For an exciting time, this is a great BTG slot to select.
